About

Thanks for visiting PAPERCUT21. I’m Jane Palmer, a collage artist based in Reading, Pennsylvania. I cut up magazines and picture books, then reassemble the fragments into new visual stories. I’m drawn to the meditative rhythm of hand-cut collage and the chance to reimagine the familiar.

Most pieces begin when I pair a single image with shapes, colors, and textures that feel like they might want to join the conversation. From there, I experiment: swapping, rearranging, listening for resonance. I’m drawn to bold color, birds, blooms, fabric and beautiful paper.  I tend to keep recognizable images intact but place them in unexpected pairings to invite reflection and shift perspective.

For me, collage mirrors the way we move through the world—piecing together roles, expectations, and truths. Cutting and pasting becomes a quiet act of reconstruction, a kind of mercy, a way to make meaning.
